A fabulous and in-depth review of the new album on Velvet Thunder from one of rock’s most respected writers, Steve Pilkington.
“Luke Machin pulls off a solo here which is jaw dropping in its effectiveness. If you’re listening to this in the car and playing it loud, be mindful lest the wheels leave the road entirely and the vehicle levitates. It’s that sort of moment.”
“when Sertari comes in with some Latin I’m sold!”
“the shimmeringly fragile beauty of Don’t Forget My Name”
“Karnataka have never sounded better.”

“Sertari’s ambitious vocal arrangements that contemplate the journey into darkness”
“An album of magnitude and contemplation that ponders the question of who knows what the future holds, Requiem For A Dream considers the bigger picture of planet Earth and our own futures.”

“80 minutes of melodic adventure of the very finest quality. An easy top 5 release for 2023.”
It’s great to finally release our new Karnataka album Requiem For A Dream which I can only describe as a complete labour of love. The album features nearly 80 minutes of new music including our most ambitious track to date, the 25 minute epic, ‘Requiem For A Dream’.
The album also features the beautiful uilleann pipes and low whistle of special guest and long-term band collaborator, Troy Donockley from global phenomenon, Nightwish.
Tracks:
All Around The World // Sacrifice // Look To The East // Forgiven // The Night’s Dance
Say Goodbye Tomorrow // Don’t Forget My Name // Requiem For A Dream
The album was mixed by Joe Gibb (Massive Attack, The Cure, Leftfield) and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, U2, Depeche Mode).
Requiem For A Dream is out now and available exclusively from the Karnataka online shop until July 28th when it receives it’s worldwide release.
We’re excited to announce our Requiem For A Dream Tour 2023.

We are very excited to announce the release of our new studio album Requiem For A Dream on June 5th 2023, World Environment Day. Featuring eight stunning new songs, the lavishly produced new album also includes our most ambitious track to date, the 25 minute epic, ‘Requiem For A Dream’.
”The album explores themes of personal adversity, loss, despair and forgiveness, experienced through the prism of global chaos, climate change and environmental destruction.” says Ian & Sertari. ”A beautiful world slowly dying and tinged with fear, yet grasping for hope. We are reminded of the fragility of Sagan’s unique ‘pale blue dot’ floating in a vast ocean of stars. We are dancing in the rain. This is our requiem for a dream.“
The timeless qualities of the band’s sound are captured in this lush, multi-layered, symphonic production; mysterious, haunting and beautiful, yet epic in scope and embracing sonic ambition.
The album features the beautiful uilleann pipes and low whistle of special guest and long-term band collaborator, Troy Donockley from global phenomenon, Nightwish.
The album was mixed by Joe Gibb, highly regarded as a world class engineer who has worked with many prestigious artists including Massive Attack, The Cure and Leftfield.
Requiem For A Dream is released on World Environment Day June 5th 2023
